Felony court news

Theft
A rural Portland woman was sentenced recently in Wells County Superior Court for felony theft.
Cassandra N. Richman, 29, pleaded guilty to theft, a Level 6 felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor.

On the charge of theft, she was sentenced to two years in jail with all but 70 days suspended. On the drug paraphernalia charge, she was sentenced to one year in jail with all but 70 days suspended. She was placed on probation for 660 days, and her sentences will be served consecutively. She was fined, assessed costs and fees in the amount of $1,243 and is ordered to submit a DNA sample.
A Bluffton police officer arrested Richman when she attempted to take a number of items on July, 8, 2014, from a Wal-Mart store. Officers found heroin paraphernalia in her vehicle, according to court documents.
The items related to the charge of theft fell below the limit for a felony charge, but it was enhanced to a felony because of a previous charge.
