Firefighters say thank you
To the editor:
The Portland Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended our eighth annual Fire Safety Day on Oct. 1.
We would also like to thank all the public servants who took the time out of their busy schedule to participate.
These would include Portland Police Department, Jay Emergency Medical Service, Jay County Sheriff’s Office and Lutheran Air.
The following businesses also made special contributions: Central Gases, Jay County Hospital and CrownPointe assisted living.
Without all of these participants, this day would not be possible.
We would also like to remind everyone to practice fire safety every day and to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. If any Portland homeowner does not have a smoke detector, you can get one free of charge at Portland Fire Department.
Thank you.
Chief Mike Weitzel and the firefighters of the City of Portland
