It took 13 games into her collegiate career for Gabbie Mann to notch her first career goal.
She needed one more game to double her scoring total.
Mann, a 2016 Jay County High School graduate, scored the lone goal for the IPFW women’s soccer team in a 7-1 loss Friday to Oral Roberts University.
It was the second goal of the season for Mann, who recorded her first college tally five days earlier against Omaha.
The freshman logged 35 minutes as a substitute, and fired two shots on goal Friday. Oral Roberts had a 5-0 lead before Mann got the ball off a turnover and took a shot, finding the back of the net 53 minutes, 42 seconds, into the match.
Host Oral Roberts tallied two more goals for the lopsided win.
Mann’s two goals is tied for second on the team with Chloee Foor, and her five points ranks third. Kalliann Mogler leads the team with four goals and 24 points.
Mann has played in all 15 games for the Mastodons (3-11-1, 0-3-1 Summit League), and has started twice. She averages 24 minutes of play per game.

 

Cassidy Rammel
FRHS – 2015
Was named all-tournament first team selection for her performance during the Aquinas-Cornerstone Tournament as a member of the University of Saint Francis volleyball team.
She posted team highs in kills in each match, helping the Cougars (8-21, 4-9 Crossroad League) to wins Friday over Aquinas and Siena Heights. USF lost to Cornerstone on Saturday before scoring a victory against University of Northwestern Ohio.
Rammel tallied 47 kills, 18 digs, five blocks and five aces. She also had eight kills, eight digs and two aces on Tuesday in a 3-1 victory over Goshen.

Kelsey Fiely
FRHS – 2013
Turned in her best match of the Aquinas/Cornerstone Tournament in a four-set loss Saturday to St. Francis (Indiana).
Fiely finished second in digs for the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team as it fell 30-28, 21-25, 25-15, 25-21 to St. Francis. She totaled 12 digs and also put up a pair of assists.
In other tournament matches, the senior had nine digs, two assists and an ace in a victory over St. Xavier, seven digs and two assists in a three-set win over Indiana University South Bend and three digs and two assists in a sweep of Governors State.
Fiely also totaled 10 digs for the Racers (14-16) on Wednesday in a 25-15, 25-22, 25-13 victory over Marygrove.

Eric Hemmelgarn
Jay County – 2014
Had three tackles and 1.5 sacks for the University of Saint Francis football team Saturday in a 44-6 thumping of Concordia University.
Hemmelgarn, who was in the starting lineup for the NAIA No. 4 Cougars (6-1, 4-1 Mid-States Football Association-Mideast League), recorded his first tackle on the opening drive of the game. Later in the first quarter, he teamed for a sack and a loss of 6 yards. He also had a solo sack in the fourth quarter.

Katy Smeltzer
Jay County – 2015
Picked up one individual victory and helped a winning relay team for the women’s swim team at University of the Cumberlands Friday in a 212-53 victory over Union College.
The sophomore finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with her time of 56.32 seconds. She joined Brittany Litke, Morgan Plowman and Cassie Bock to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:47.53.
She also finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:22.85) and the 100 butterfly (1:04.42).

Morgan Lennartz
FRHS – 2016
Played for the IU East volleyball team in a pair of losses Saturday.
The freshman tallied eight kills, three digs and two blocks in a 3-2 loss to West Virginia Institute of Technology, and followed with two kills, one dig and one block in a 3-0 loss to Rio Grande.
The Red Wolves fell to 11-15 (4-6 River States Conference).

Derek Wanner
SAHS – 2015
Had a career-high five tackles for the Taylor University football team Saturday in a 21-14 victory over Siena Heights University.
Wanner, a sophomore defensive back, had three solo tackles and assisted on two others for the Trojans (3-5) He had two solo tackles in the second quarter, and assisted on two stops in the third quarter.

Kirsten Jutte
FRHS– 2016
Notched 20 or more assists for the Capital University volleyball team in a pair of losses recently.
The freshman totaled 32 assists, five digs, four kills and three aces in a 3-1 loss Tuesday to Marietta.
She added 20 assists, five kills, five digs and one ace in a 3-1 loss Saturday to Mount Union.
The Crusaders have lost four consecutive matches and 10 of their last 11 in falling to 5-19 (1-5 Ohio Athletic Conference) on the season.

Ava Kunkler
Jay County – 2016
Played for the University of Saint Francis volleyball team in three matches recently.
She had one block in a 3-1 loss to Goshen on Tuesday. She also tallied one kill Saturday in a 3-1 loss to Cornerstone in the Aquinas-Cornerstone Tournament, and played but did not record stats in a 3-1 loss Saturday to University of Northwestern Ohio.

Wes Wenning
FRHS – 2016
Played in his second consecutive game for the Ashland University football team Saturday in a 63-6 clubbing of Lake Erie.
Wenning, a freshman wide receiver, did not catch a pass for the NCAA Division II No. 11 Eagles (6-1, 5-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).
