One injured
A Portland man and a Dunkirk man were involved in a head-on car accident early Friday morning west of Portland.
Roger A. Luedeke, 53, 953 S. Shank St., Portland, was driving his 1993 Chevrolet G20 van west on county road 200 South and had stopped at a stop sign to turn south onto Indiana 67. Trenton P. Davis, 39, 1986 S. 875 East, was eastbound on county road 200 South in his 1999 Ford Escort, stopped on the opposite side of Indiana 67 and was planning to turn north.
Once traffic on Indiana 67 cleared, both drivers tried to make a left hand turn and their vehicles collided. Luedeke told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he had failed to see Davis’ Escort.
Davis complained of back pain and received medical attention from first responders.
Damage in the 7:21 a.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Driving test accident
A Portland teen was involved in an accident while taking his driving test Friday morning in downtown Portland.
Travis L. Drumm, 16, 1257 W. Arch St., was driving a 2005 Ford Five Hundred and tried to parallel park at 214 E. Main St. Drumm struck the passenger side rear of a parked 2004 Chrysler Town and Country.
The Ford driven by Drumm is registered to George and Irma Drumm, same address as driver.
The Town and Country is registered to Betty Best, 216 E. Main St., Portland.
Damage in the 9:14 a.m. accident was estimated under $1,000.
Rear-ended
Two Portland residents were involved in a car accident Friday afternoon in downtown Portland.
Robert A. Minch, 30, 223 W. High St., was driving his 2011 Toyota Sienna north on Meridian Street and intended to turn left into the Pizza Hut parking lot at 1502 N. Meridian St. A southbound vehicle was in the turn lane to turn into the to the Fullenkamp Machine parking lot on the opposite side of the street, and was blocking Minch’s turn into the Pizza Hut lot. Minch stopped his Sienna in the northbound traffic lane to let the other vehicle turn.
Kelsey E. Jackson, 23, 903 W. Race St., was northbound as well and struck the rear of Minch’s Sienna with her 2004 Ford Crown Victoria.
The Crown Victoria is registered to Austin B. Emerick, 2835 S. Southtown Place, Portland.
Damage in the 1:02 p.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Recycling set
Jay County Solid Waste Management District will have two recycling trailers available from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
West Jay Optimist Club will staff a trailer in the parking lot south of West Jay Community Center, and Jay County 4-H Shooting Sports will staff a trailer in the Marsh parking lot in Portland.
