Went off road
A Kentucky man drove a vehicle off the road Thursday morning in Pike Township as he attempted to avoid hitting a deer.
Michael L. Case, 56, Sadieville, was northbound on U.S. 27, near Treaty Line Road, when a deer entered the roadway. He told Jay County Sheriff’s Office that he swerved the 2007 Volvo he was driving to the east side of the road to avoid striking the deer.
At that time, Case lost control of the vehicle, which traveled approximately 384 feet in the ditch, striking a striking a tree and embankment. Following that, the Volvo traveled another 231 feet, returning to the road, where it came to a rest.
The Volvo is registered Risinger Bros. Transfer, Inc., Morten, Illinois.
Damage in the 8 a.m. accident is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Redkey hires
Redkey Town Council hired a part-time utility worker and selected a quote for work at the new fire station at a special meeting Thursday.
Council hired Kelly Henry to work between 20 and 29 hours per week. It also accepted a quote from Mid-States Construction, not to exceed $5,000, to remove brick behind the new fire station and add dirt for a drain swell.
