FORT RECOVERY — The Indians took the first game from the team that finished one notch ahead of them in this week’s poll voting.
But when the tide started to turn, they couldn’t fight off the Tigers.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team gave up a 19-16 lead in the second game and was unable to recover in a 16-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-15 loss to Versailles.
“Hitting errors,” said Rogers, whose team struggled to put the ball in play as the Tigers took control. “I thought when we started getting hitting errors then our serve receive started to go downhill and we just weren’t able to run what we were the first set.”
Versailles, which finished 13th in the Division III poll voting this week, got two kills from Kami Ording during a 4-0 run to erase Fort Recovery’s lead in game two and then closed on a 4-1 run. It used an 8-0 run on Ellen Peters’ serve to take control in game three and then finished off the match with an 11-1 run.
Carley Stone had team highs of 15 digs and 11 kills for Fort Recovery (10-3, 1-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) in the defeat. Paige Jutte and Devin Post had eight kills apiece, and Madi Rammel put up 32 assists.
Danielle Winner’s 12 kills led Versailles (9-4, 2-1 MAC). Ording had 13 digs, and Peters put up 18 assists.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team won, 25-14, 25-17. Olivia Patch led the Indians with six kills, and Hannah Knapke followed with five. Knapke also shared the team-high of six digs with Brooke Kahilg, who totaled six aces. Rachel Acheson had 10 assists.
