Divert trucks from downtown
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
After my recent letter on the subject of two-lane traffic through historic Portland’s downtown I have had lots of good and bad comments.
The most stressing is “find a relief of the truck traffic” in downtown.
So the following is a thought to be thinking about maybe in the future even if the two-lane idea doesn’t materialize.
I’m sure most of us have seen truck route signs in cities, so let’s try it for Portland. Indiana 26 at the corner of Water and Meridian streets at Jay Community Center truck route: Go straight on Water Street past the former brush and broom factory, Patriot Paint and Tyson Mexican original that comes out at Indiana 67 (near Jay County REMC).
The removal of stop signs along the Water Street would make this more truck friendly thus much less through our city.
Thank you,
Randy Fisher
