Drove off road
A Decatur man drove off the road Saturday evening near Portland, hitting a mailbox and utility pole and damaging the car he was driving.
Ryan E. Bracey, 29, 115 Selkirk, was driving north on Indiana 27 when he entered the southbound lane, overcorrected and went off the road, striking a mailbox. He had been driving erratically before going off the road, according to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report. The 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 he was driving went through several yards before striking an AEP utility pole and coming to a stop.
The truck is registered to Jack E. Bracey, 221 N. 3rd, Decatur.
Ryan Bracey complained of pain over his entire body and was treated at the scene. Drug test results are pending.
Damage in the 6:25 p.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Meetings moved
Bryant and Pennville town councils have rescheduled their regular meetings for April.
Pennville Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. April 11.
Bryant Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. April 13 with a park board meeting to follow.
Visiting Jay
U.S. Rep. Jim Banks will have a member of his staff from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Jay County Courthouse to meet with local residents. Banks represents northeast Indiana, including Jay County.
Deer struck
A Fort Recovery woman’s car was damaged when she hit a deer Saturday night near Portland.
Kristy A. Foster, 206 1/2 Broadway St., told the Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was traveling west on Division Road west of county road 600 East when a deer jumped in front of her vehicle. She was unable to avoid hitting the deer with her 2014 Chevrolet Spark.
Damage in the 9:35 p.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Roundup scheduled
Jay School Corporation is holding its kindergarten roundup this week with sessions at each elementary school beginning at 8:30 a.m. and expected to last about two hours.
Sessions will be April 4 at General Shanks and Redkey, April 5 at Pennville, Bloomfield and Westlawn and April 6 at Judge Haynes and East. Children must be at least 5 years old by Aug. 1 in order to enroll.
