New officer hired
Portland Board of Public Works and Safety hired a new full-time police officer at its Thursday morning meeting.
Bradley Miller, 22, was selected to become a full-time officer with the Portland Police Department. Miller has already served as a part-time officer and as a paramedic for Jay Emergency Medical Service.
Deer struck
A Portland man’s car was damaged Friday morning after a collision with a deer west of Portland.
Clay W. McIntire, 59, 3466 W. 75 South, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling east on Indiana 67 near Indiana 26 when a deer ran into the roadway. He was unable to avoid striking the deer with his car, a 2004 Dodge 1500.
Damage in the 6:27 a.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
