Backing accident
Two vehicles were damaged April 3 when a Portland woman backed the car she was driving into a parked car.
Jean M. Coleman, 49, 405 E. North St., was backing the vehicle she was driving out of her driveway when she struck a car parked on North Street near its intersection with Garfield Street. She was driving a 2006 Hyundai Elantra, registered to Daniel J. Coleman, same address as driver.
The parked car, a 2006 Ford Mustang, is registered to Nathaniel C. Burkett, 414 E. Race St., Portland.
Damage in the 5:14 p.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Deer struck
A Florida man’s car was damaged Saturday night in a collision with a deer near Portland.
Niles C. McInter, 28, 1331 S. Federal Highway, Apartment 511, Boynton Beach, Florida, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling west on county road 800 South near county road 100 West when a deer ran into the roadway. He was unable to avoid striking it with his car, a 2009 Nissan Altima.
Damage in the 8:45 p.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Backing accident
A Dunkirk police officer was involved in a backing accident early Saturday morning after responding to a call.
Tracy J. Layman, 52, 9496 W. 200 South, Dunkirk, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was backing the police vehicle he was driving out of an alley north of Short Street in Dunkirk and didn’t see the car parked behind him on Short Street. He backed the car he was driving, a 2013 Ford Explorer registered to the City of Dunkirk, 131 S. Main St., Dunkirk, into the passenger side of the parked car, a 2002 Saturn SC2. The Saturn is registered to Casey L. Grimes, 724 S. Main St., Dunkirk.
Damage in the 1:15 a.m. accident is estimated to be less than $1,000.
Theft
A Portland woman was arrested Sunday afternoon for theft.
Kelli S. Morningstar, 19, 538 W. High St., was arrested on a warrant for theft, a Level 6 felony.
She was booked at 4 pm. into Jay County Jail and is being held there on a $4,500 bond.
