Drive safely and keep town clean

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

Redkey Town Council would like to remind all residents that the sewer separation project is underway.

We know that this can be inconvenient while driving in town and trying to get to a certain place.

Please use extreme caution when driving in town.

Many times a complete street or part of a street will be temporarily closed. Please do not drive around “road close” signs or barricades. We have received complaints from the workers that vehicles have been going around the posted signs and have come close to hitting the machinery and the workers. Their safety while working is a very important part of getting this work done. Violators will not be tolerated.

Now that spring is here and the warmer temperatures lie ahead, we ask all residents to clean up their properties. The police department is in the process of issuing tickets for non-compliance with our ordinances.

These violations include un-mowed grass and weeds, abandoned and junk vehicles, trash, litter, tires, boxes, wood, cans, vehicle parts, lumber and glass. No one should have to constantly look at this kind of debris in the neighborhood. This is not fair to the residents who like to keep their property clean and in good shape.

The town-wide rummage sale will be held May 12 and 13. Heavy trash pick-up will be May 20. Now is the time to get your property cleaned up and to get rid of all those items you don’t need or use.

Hopefully, the downtown revitalization will be taking place in the near future. All of us, as the residents of Redkey, need to do everything we can do to help make our town a cleaner and safer place to live and raise our families. The more we can do to make our town more attractive, the better chance we have at attracting more families and businesses to relocate to our town.

We are all in this together, so let’s work together to improve our town.
