Kyra Braun shined as an individual.

Braun, a 2016 Jay County High School graduate, closed out her freshman campaign with a pair of singles victories and made her doubles debut for the Trine University women’s tennis team.

The former Patriot defeated Bernadette Garibay 6-1, 7-6 in her No. 6 singles match as the Thunder closed its season with a 7-2 win over Alma College on Wednesday.

Three days earlier, Braun knocked off Amanda Gruszka of Olivet 6-0, 6-2 as Trine (4-15, 2-6 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) picked up a 6-3 win. On Saturday, Braun lost 6-3, 6-3 to Kari Kroez as the Thunder fell 9-0 to Calvin College.

Against Olivet, Braun made her doubles debut, joining Abby Hoge at No. 3 doubles to defeat Miranda Pier and Sydnie Weller, 8-3. On Wednesday, Braun and Hoge knocked off Alma’s Chloe Ramsey and Amy Wood 9-8 (7-5).

Braun finished her freshman season 10-4 in singles matches and was 2-0 in doubles contests.



Kyle Selvey

Jay County – 2014

Notched a career high in runs scored for the Huntington University baseball team on Friday in a 13-2 victory over Taylor.

Selvey scored three times as a courtesy runner for catcher Michael Crowley.

He also scored twice as the No. 24 Foresters (27-10, 20-4 Crossroads League) lost a non-conference game to No. 19 Indiana Tech 15-9 on Tuesday.

Selvey has appeared in 19 games and scored 10 times.



Collin Affolder

South Adams – 2014

Tallied four hits recently for the Bethel College baseball team.

He had a double, a single and scored a run in a 15-12 loss Friday to Mount Vernon Nazarene. He also had two singles, one run and an RBI as the Pilots (19-18, 9-15 Crossroads League) lost 4-2 to IU-South Bend on Monday.

Affolder is batting .346 with eight doubles, one triple and two home runs. He has a team-high 38 RBIs.



Jackson Hobbs

Fort Recovery – 2016

Took his third loss in a row as the Edison State Community College baseball team dropped a 3-2 contest to Lakeland Community College in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

Hobbs started and allowed three runs — two earned — on nine hits. He struck out one and didn’t issue a walk in 7 1/3 innings of work.

He fell to 2-3 with a save after winning his first two starts for the Chargers (13-17).



Catherine Dunn

Jay County – 2014

Had two hits recently for the Brescia University softball team in a pair of losses.

Dunn had a single in a 3-1 loss as the Bearcats dropped the first game of a doubleheader to Ohio Christian.

She had another single in a 3-1 defeat to Cincinnati Christian in the second game of a twin bill on Tuesday.

She is batting .229 in 24 games this season. She has 16 hits, scored 18 runs and driven in two RBIs.



Chandler Ingle

South Adams – 2015

Made a relief appearance for the Goshen College baseball team Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader against Grace College.

Ingle entered in the bottom of seventh inning with the game tied 6-6.

He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out one on 12 pitches while getting the hold.

Grace scored a run in the bottom of the 11th inning for a 7-6 victory as the Maple Leafs fell to 22-25-1 (10-14 Crossroads League).



Drew LeFever

South Adams – 2016

Competed at the 2017 Little State Championships for the host Taylor University men’s track team on Friday and Saturday.

LeFever’s best finish was in the shot put, as his distance of 13.18 meters was good for 10th place. He followed by placing 15th in discus (38.36 meters) and 21st in hammer throw (34.85 meters).

The host Trojans were fourth out of 15 teams with 95 points. Indianapolis totaled 119 points for the
