Farm injury

A Portland man was injured in a farm accident Sunday morning in Darke County, Ohio.

According to a press release from Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Matt S. Rogers, 35, Portland, was injured when his arm was caught in a conveyor belt while working at Howe’s Hens Layer Farm, 13291 Cochran Road, Rossburg, Ohio.

The sheriff’s office received a 911 call at 7:49 a.m. about a serious industrial farming accident in northern Darke County. Ansonia Rescue, Rossburg Fire, CareFlight and Darke County Deputies were dispatched to the farm.

Rogers was treated by first responders at the scene and then flown by helicopter to Dayton’s Miami Valley Hospital, which listed his condition as undetermined this morning.



Improper turning

Two Portland women were involved in a vehicle accident Friday morning on the west side of Portland.

Edith M. Dickey, 87, 2328 S. Brookview Drive, told Portland Police Department she was driving her 2010 Cadillac SRX east on North Street, and had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with Western Avenue. Dickey told police she didn’t see a southbound 1999 Buick Park Avenue that was stopped on the north side of the intersection. Dickey turned her SRX north onto Western Avenue and struck the Buick.

Barbara J. Hudson, 89, 201 N. Middle St., was driving the Buick.

Damage in the 10:48 a.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.



Rear-ended

A Redkey woman and a Dunkirk woman were involved in a vehicle accident Friday night southwest of Portland.

Melissa D. Wright, 43, 415 N. Meridian St., Redkey, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was driving southwest on Indiana 67 in her 2011 Ford Focus, when she slowed down while the car in front of her was braking to make a left hand turn at the intersection with county road 300 South.

Rita A. White, 53, 427 E. Railroad St., Dunkirk, was driving her 2007 Chevrolet HHR behind Wright when she failed to see the brake lights on Wright’s Focus and her vehicle rear-ended it.

Damage in the 9:12 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.



ATM struck

A Portland man struck an ATM with his vehicle Friday morning in Portland.

Michael T. McBride, 51, 2530 S. 200 West, told Portland Police Department he had pulled his 2015 Dodge Ram up to the ATM at Main Source Bank, 1511 N. Meridian, and when he pulled out to head west through the Rock Church parking lot, he struck the ATM with his Ram.

Damage in the 11:46 a.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.



Following too closely

Two Portland women were involved in a vehicle accident Friday afternoon on the west side of Portland.

Susan D. Shrock, 66, 1610 E. Division Road, was driving her 2014 Chevrolet SUV west on Indiana 67, and slowed to turn left into the parking lot of the U.S. Consolidated Farm Service Agency, 1331 Indiana 67, when a 2005 Toyota Camry struck the rear of her vehicle.

Dreama L. Nichols, 70, 1003 S. Bridge St., was driving the Toyota.

Damage in the 12:53 p.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.



Pole struck

A Portland man struck a pole with his vehicle Sunday afternoon in Portland.

James L. Weaver, 32, 2883 S. Boundary Pike, told Portland Police Department he was driving his 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee east on Floral Avenue when his child jumped out of his seat. Weaver tried to put  his child back in his seat and his Jeep struck a light pole on the northwest side of the intersection of Floral Avenue and Boundary Pike.

Damage in the 2:24 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.



Deer struck

A Portland man struck a deer with his vehicle Sunday afternoon south of Portland.

Jack Brenner, 78, 946 W. Race St., was driving his 2014 Ford Escort east on county road 200 South, west of the intersection with U.S. 27, when a deer crossed the road and was struck by his Escort.

Damage in the 3:20 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
