Right-angle crash
A Portland woman was injured Friday morning when the car she was driving was struck by another vehicle.
Holly M. Alberson, 37, 3204 E. 400 North, was driving a 2003 Dodge Durango north on Meridian Street when Tanya L. Comstock’s car collided with it.
Comstock, 34, 681 S. Western Ave., Portland, told Portland Police Department she was traveling east on Seventh Street and had stopped at the stop sign at its intersection with Meridian Street. She said she didn’t see any cars coming because of sun glare and pulled out into the intersection, colliding with the Durango, which is registered to William S. Alberson, 4244 W. 650 North, Bryant. Comstock was driving her 2003 Buick RLS.
Alberson complained of pain in her hip and upper leg and was transported to Jay County Hospital with incapacitating injuries.
Comstock was cited for not having automobile insurance.
Damage in the 8:03 a.m. collision is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Theft
Two Jay County residents reported separate incidents of theft on Friday.
Bobbie J. Imel, 6293 N. Bryant Pike, reported to Jay County Sheriff’s Office on Friday that someone had entered her home during the past two weeks on an unknown day. Imel reported several hand tools, DVDs, coins, towels and around 75 CDs missing from her home.
Brad Forthofer, 3890 E. 400 South, Portland, reported that his mailbox was stolen Friday. He told Jay County Sheriff’s Office it was there when he left for work and missing when he returned that evening.
Sideswipe
A Portland couple’s parked car was damaged Friday in a collision with an unknown vehicle.
The driver of the 2011 Toyota Sienna, registered to Robert and Monica Minch, 201 Oak St., told Portland Police Department the car was parked around 8:30 a.m. in a spot by Jay County Courthouse, near the intersection of Commerce and Main streets.
When the driver returned around 12:30 p.m., there was damage to the driver’s side doors, including dents and red paint marks.
Damage in the collision is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Backing accident
A Portland woman hit a parked car in the Meridian Health Services parking lot while backing her vehicle out of a parking space.
Katherine E. Marin, 29, 1113 S. Detroit Ave., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was backing her 2006 Dodge Stratus out of a spot at Meridian Health Services, 931 W. Water St., and didn’t see a car parked behind hers. She struck a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, registered to Erica Y. Robinson, 4420 W. Wooday Drive, Muncie.
Damage in the 11 a.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
