Community helped after tornado

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

To all our family friends and the community of Jay County,

We wanted to take time to thank each and every one of you who helped us when the tornado struck on Nov. 5. Casey and I cannot explain how our lives were turned upside down on that day. Not only did we lose our hog farm set-up on Indiana 26, but we also lost our turkey farm set-up 5 miles away on Indiana 1. Thankfully, the turkeys had left on Nov. 3, so those barns were empty.

We were in the hog barns checking pigs when the tornado hit. We are so thankful to be alive.

Within the hour following the destruction, family, friends, neighbors and people we did not even know showed up to help us at the hog barns. It was overwhelming the amount of support and generosity that was shown. Everyone pitched in and helped to get debris moved and pigs loaded. It was a long two days, and we appreciate each and every one of you who stayed to help us. We would have never got it accomplished without you.

In the days to come, many people came to help with clean-up. Many people brought and made meals and snacks. Some people just brought clean, dry gloves. Many people stopped to check on us. People called and texted us to tell us, telling us we were in their thoughts and prayers.

We cannot even begin to list everyone individually because there were so many. But we wanted you to know that whatever you did, we greatly appreciate it.

So, during this holiday season and throughout the year, be grateful for what you have, hold your families close and love one another.

Our family will be forever grateful for each and every one of you who helped us and continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Wishing you a wonderful and properous 2018, with much love and appreciation,

Casey, Jenny and Piper Wagner
