Possession

A Kokomo man pleaded guilty in Jay Circuit Court to a possession charge.

Peter J. Jergens, 48, 125 Leafy Lane, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony.

He was sentenced to three years in Indiana Department of Correction and was given credit for time served, assessed court costs of $185 and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200. As part of a plea agreement, a charge of unlawful possession of a syringe was dismissed.



Possession

A Dunkirk man pleaded guilty recently in Jay Superior Court to a possession charge.

Michael D. Lykins, 42,165 E. Grand St., pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony. As part of a plea deal, charges of possession of methamphetamine and driving while suspended were dismissed.

He was sentenced to serve two and a half years in Jay County Jail with all but two years suspended, given 228 days credit for 114 days served, and will serve 77 days in jail and one year on electronically monitored home suspension. He was assessed court costs of $185 and sentenced to six months of formal probation.



Possession

A Hartford City man pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, in Jay Superior Court.

Jason L. Young Jr., 18, 420 N. Monroe St., Apartment 5, was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail with all but 18 days suspended and given 18 days credit for nine days served. He was assessed court costs of $185, and ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a substance abuse prevention fee of $400. He was put on formal probation for 11 months consecutive to the probation order from an earlier case.

As part of a plea agreement, charges of possession of a narcotic drug and possession of marijuana were dismissed. Upon successful completion of his probation, Young can petition for a reduction of the charge to a Class A misdemeanor.



Possession

A Saratoga man pleaded guilty to drug possession charges in Jay Superior Court recently.

Joseph D. Young Jr., 408 S. Evans St., pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of methamphetamine, both Level 6 felonies. For the first count, he was sentenced to serve 18 months in Jay County Jail with all but 180 days suspended and given 50 days credit for 25 days served. He was assessed court costs of $185, ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and placed on formal probation for 12 months. As part of a plea agreement, charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of paraphernalia and public intoxication were dismissed.

For the second charge, Young was sentenced to serve 18 months in Jay County Jail consecutive to the sentence imposed in the earlier charge. All but 180 days were suspended and he was given 180 days credit for 90 days already served. He was assessed court costs of $185, ordered to pay a drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200 and a substance abuse prevention fee of $400, and placed on formal probation for 12 months consecutive to the previous charge. As part of a plea agreement, charges of unlawful possession of a syringe, maintaining a common nuisance – controlled substances, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia were dismissed.



Residential entry, OWI

A Portland man pleaded guilty to two charges in Jay Superior Court.

Victor K. Gaston, 25, 4164 E. 500 North, pleaded guilty to residential entry, a Level 6 felony, and operating while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor. As part of a plea agreement, charges of operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 percent or more, criminal mischief and failure to remain at the scene of an accident were dismissed.

For the residential entry charge, Gaston was sentenced to 18 months in Jay County Jail with all but 34 days suspended and given 34 days credit for 17 days served. He was placed on formal probation for 17 months. Upon successful completion of his probation, he may petition for a reduction to a Class A misdemeanor.

For operating while intoxicated, Gaston was sentenced to serve 60 days in jail to be served concurrently with the previous charge, with all but 34 days suspended and given 34 days credit for 17 days served. He was fined $100, assessed court costs of $185.50 and ordered to pay an alcohol and drug countermeasures fee of $200 and a substance abuse prevention fee of $400. The court recommended to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles that his license be suspended for 90 days.
