Scott Schwieterman averaged 7.9 points per game through his first 14 contests.

He doubled that Tuesday.

Schwieterman, a 2013 Jay County High School graduate, tallied a season-high 18 points in helping lead the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team to a 118-72 home win over East-West University.

The senior forward was 7-of-10 from the field, including making all three of his 3-point attempts. He also split a pair of free throws in joining Max Huber as the team’s leading scorers in just 15 minutes of action.

Schwieterman also snagged four rebounds and had three assists in helping the NAIA Division II No. 6 Warriors to their fifth consecutive win.

Schwieterman was perfect no matter where he shot Saturday as the Warriors (13-2, 6-1 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference) defeated Concordia 84-77 . He made all four of his attempts from the field and both free throws to finish with 10 points. He hauled in five rebounds with one assist and a block.



Sawyer Miller

South Adams – 2015

Was undefeated Sunday for the Indiana Tech wrestling team as it went 2-2 in the Oklahoma City Duals.

The 125-pound junior opened the tournament with a 5-3 decision over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M’s Boo Dryden before beating Oklahoma City’s Montana Moon 8-4.

Miller then defeated Zane Baugh of Baker 6-1 ahead of a 16-1 tech fall over Gabe Gray of Wayland Baptist.

The former Starfire, who’s ranked No. 2 in the nation, moves to 14-4 on the year.

Fort Recovery – 2015

Scored in double figures in back-to-back wins for the University of Findlay men’s basketball team.

The senior was 5-of-9 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line to finish with 14 points Saturday in a 79-78 overtime road victory over Cedarville. He also had four rebounds and a steal.

Kahlig had 11 points, including one 3-pointer, as the Oilers (12-2, 7-0 Great Midwest Athletic Conference) defeated Alderson Broaddus 79-72 Tuesday.

Jay County – 2015

Was second in scoring for the Brescia University women’s basketball team Dec. 14 in a 59-54 loss to Lindsey Wilson.

She took a season-high 17 shot attempts and made four, including one 3-pointer, on her way to a dozen points. She was also 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Her seven rebounds were second on the squad and she also swiped a game-high four steals for the Bearcats (4-8, 2-2 River States Conference).



Abby Wendel

Jay County – 2016

Played for the University of Rio Grande women’s basketball team Wednesday in a 68-57 win over Northwestern Ohio.

The sophomore made four of her six shot attempts to finish with eight points, while also snagging five rebounds. She contributed six assists and had a steal for the Red Storm (14-1, 4-0 River States Conference), who have won 12 straight games.



Whitney Will

Fort Recovery – 2017

Contributed to the University of Saint Francis women’s basketball team as it split a pair of games recently.

The freshman missed her only field goal but was 4-of-6 from the foul line to finish with six points on Monday in a 64-43 win over Webber International. She also snagged three rebounds and had an assist.

Will scored six points, had five rebounds and led the Cougars (8-6, 2-2 Crossroads League) with four assists in an 87-61 loss to Southeastern (Florida).

Tyler Leonhard

Jay County – 2017

Lost his only match for the Manchester University wrestling team Saturday in the Luther College Gator Boots Duals in Nashville, Tennessee.

The freshman (6-6) got pinned in 5 minutes, 44 seconds, by Anthony Arroyo of Baldwin-Walliace, which is ranked eighth in NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
