The last two months have been a struggle for the University of St. Francis men’s basketball team.

Thanks to a big performance from a Jay County High School graduate, the Cougars picked up a key win over another nationally ranked squad Tuesday.

Kegan Comer, JCHS class of 2013, led NAIA Division II No. 20 USF in assists and reached the 20-point mark for the second time in three games as it knocked off 16th-ranked Taylor 85-70.

Comer, a senior, shot 7-of-12 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers and made all of his five free throws to finish with 21 points. He also dished out a team-best five assists while recording one rebound and one steal.

The victory ended a five-game road losing streak for the Cougars, who opened the season with 11 straight wins but had lost eight of 13 before Tuesday’s game.

Comer also had seven points, four rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist Saturday in a 70-54 loss to Mt. Vernon Nazarene.
