One injured
A Portland woman was injured Wednesday afternoon in a vehicle accident involving a Union City man and a Fort Wayne man.
Robert E. Mock, 37, 1133 W. Oak St., Union City, was facing west in his 2002 Ford Explorer in the turn lane to leave Wal-Mart, 950 W. Votaw St., waiting to make a left turn south onto Industrial Park Drive. Mock told Portland Police Department that he waited for traffic to clear and began to turn left when his Explorer was struck by a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Equinox.
The driver of the Equinox, Du Sar, 33, 1609 Roosevelt Drive, Fort Wayne, told police he was driving north on Industrial Park Drive when Mock’s Explorer pulled out in front of his Equinox.
One of the passengers in Mock’s car, Theresa Collins, 29, 410 N. Middle St., Portland, was injured in the collision. She complained of jaw and neck pain and was transported to Jay County Hospital.
Sar was charged with operating a vehicle while suspended with a previous violation, a Class C misdemeanor, and was cited for driving without insurance.
Damage in the 3:12 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Ran off road
A Bryant woman was involved in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday evening northwest of Portland.
Kristi L. Stahley, 35, 1233 W. Indiana 18, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office that she was driving a 2005 Dodge Durango east on county road 200 North, west of the intersection with county road 200West, when she passed another vehicle and lost control of the Durango. The vehicle spun 180 degrees and came to rest on the north side of the road.
The Durango is registered to John A. Witt, same address asdriver . Damage in the 5:52 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Mailbox struck
A rural Portland man struck a mailbox with his vehicle Wednesday morning near Bryant.
Carter R. Homan, 18, 5552 E. 500 North, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado west on county road 500 North, east of the intersection with county road 150 East, when the right front tie rod broke on his truck causing it to go off the north side of the road and strike a mailbox.
Damage in the 7:45 a.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Slide off
A Berne man was involved in a one-vehicle accident Wednesday evening north of Bryant.
Harold L. Bradburn, 78, 306 Windridge Trail, Berne, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving his 2002 Ford F150 north on Indiana 27, south of the intersection with county road 800North, when the rear end of his pickup started to slide into oncoming traffic.
The F150 continued to slide and went off the west side of the road.
Damage in the 2:38 p.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
House fire
Portland Fire Department received a 911 call at 10:59 a.m. Wednesday about a fire at 417 S. Western Ave., Portland. When they arrived, they extinguished flames that had spread through the house while the homeowners weren’t home.
