Legion needs your support

Letters to the editor

To the editor:

Portland’s American Legion Post 211 is beginning the new year financially stable.

All loans and bills are paid, and there is a positive bank balance in both accounts.

We will be hosting a dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 28 as a fundraiser for the Melissa Fifer Campofiore family, which tragically lost Melissa recently in a traffic accident southeast of Portland.

The legion also has wheel chairs, walkers, canes and other items available for loan to those in need.

We have gotten back on our feet through the volunteer help staff and a tight-fisted management crew.

Our most visible attribute lies with the prestigious honor guard that performs at parades, Veterans Day at Freedom Park and most importantly at the funerals, where it provides a 21-gun salute.

Thanks also to The Portland Foundation in assisting with the equipment replacement following the flood of July 2015.

We would dearly love your support. You have ours.

Sincerely,

Fred Bailey

Commander
