It’s not too often someone gets to swim in the same pool as an Olympian.

Cady Farlow had that opportunity on Saturday.

Farlow, a 2015 South Adams High School graduate, earned two more NCAA national B cuts for the Purdue University women’s swim team in a loss to the Indiana Hoosiers.

The sophomore was second in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events to Olympic gold medalist Lilly King of IU. Farlow posted times of 1 minute, 01.91 seconds and 2:15.55 respectively. King, who set an Olympic record (1:04.93) in the 100-meter breaststroke in August, won the 100-yard breaststroke Saturday in 1:00.93 and finished the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.33.

Farlow also swam a breaststroke leg of a 200 medley relay team that was disqualified because of an early take off.

Competed for the University of the Cumberlands women’s swim team as it split two meets recently.

The sophomore was first in the 50-yard backstroke in 31.44 seconds, helping the Patriots beat Bethel College 198-27 on Friday. She was also second in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.85), while helping the 400 freestyle relay finish second and the Patriots’ C 400 medley relay finish third.

Smeltzer was second and fourth respectively in the 500 freestyle and 200 butterfly as UC lost to Centre College on Saturday, 120-103. She also swam the third leg of the 200 freestyle relay team which finished second.



James Keen

Jay County – 2015


Earned two individual victories and helped a winning relay for the Tiffin University men’s swim team on Friday in its 73.5-61.5 loss to Findlay.

Keen won the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 25.26 seconds, and also won the 200 individual medley in 2:02.8. He helped the 400 freestyle relay win in 3:14.06, while also placing third in the 100 backstroke.


The sophomore helped the 200 freestyle relay team finish first on Saturday in a split meet with Eastern Michigan and Wayne State. Keen swam the third leg in 22.3 seconds as he joined Ygor Zanardo Bortolato, Jonah Sumfleth and Lucas Merigue Bernardo to finish in 1:28.66. He was also fourth in the 100 and 200 backstroke events and sixth in the 100 butterfly.



Anne Vormohr

Jay County – 2016


Picked up one individual win and helped a pair of relays finish first for the Ball State University women’s swim team as it defeated host Indiana State 194-97 and Eastern Illinois 247-47.

She won the 100-yard backstroke in 58.86 seconds in addition to finishing runner up in the 200 backstroke.

Vormohr swam the backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay in 27.54 seconds, helping the squad finish first in 1:45.96. She also swam the third leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay team in 24.28 seconds, as the team had a time of 1:38.22.

Also swam for the Ball State women’s swim team Saturday.

Bader was second in both the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 57.18 seconds) and the 200 IM (2:12.75). She added a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle, while swimming the butterfly leg of the third-place 200 medley relay in 26.44 seconds.



Elijah Kahlig

Fort Recovery – 2014


Was third in scoring for the University of Findlay men’s basketball team in its 81-79 victory Friday over Lake Erie.

Kahlig was 4-for-12 from the field, made one of his eight 3-point attempts and 3-of-4 free throws to finish with 12 points. He also had five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.

The junior scored four points on 2-for-7 shooting on Thursday as the Oilers (14-4, 8-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) defeated Ohio Dominican 72-69. He added four rebounds and four steals.



Catherine Dunn

Jay Co. – 2015


Led all players in scoring for the Brescia University women’s basketball team Tuesday in its 92-67 loss to IU East.

Dunn was 6-for-10 from the field and made four of her five free throw attempts to finish with a game-high 16 points. She also had a pair of rebounds.

The sophomore notched eight points, five rebounds and a steal as the Bearcats (4-20, 2-8 River States Conference) beat Carlow 49-37 on Saturday, a day after totaling five points, a team-high nine rebounds, three assists and one steal in a 56-47 loss to Point Park.

Jay Co. – 2016


Started a pair of games recently for the University of Rio Grande women’s basketball team.

The freshman made her only field goal attempt and both of her free throws to finish with four points as the Red Storm defeated Asbury 93-82 on Tuesday. She also had one rebound, two assists and one steal before fouling out.

Wendel was 1-for-3 from the field with four rebounds, one assist and one steal on Friday as the Red Storm (14-8, 6-4 River States Conference) beat Midway, 75-62.
