Failure to yield
A Fairmount man and a Portland man were involved in a vehicle accident Thursday morning in Portland.
William E. Keys, 85, 1260 E. 1050 South, Fairmount, was driving his 1999 Dodge Ram west on Votaw Street, at the intersection with Wayne Street, when he said he stopped at the stop sign before pulling out and striking a 2013 Ford Fiesta with his Ram.
David T. Hovenstine, 57, 640 E. Floral Ave., Portland, the driver of the Fiesta, told Portland Police Department that Keys failed to stop at the stop sign.
Police attributed the cause of the accident to Keys’ failure to yield. Damage in the 11:06 a.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Parked car struck
A Hartford City man struck a pair of Portland residents’ vehicle with a trailer he was pulling Thursday morning in Portland.
Neil L. Strobe, 65, 1460 N. 200 East, told Portland Police Department he was pulling his 2011 Dodge Ram, with a trailer, into the parking lot of Village Pantry, 704 N. Meridian St., when the trailer struck a parked 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, registered to Ralph and Kirk Liggett, 1760 S. Manuels Drive, Portland.
Damage in the 9:01 a.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Recycling set
Jay County Solid Waste District will have two recycling trailers available from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
One will be stationed in the shopping center parking lot at 220 Lincoln St. in Portland and staffed by Jay County 4-H Shooting Sports. West Jay Optimist Club will staff the other trailer in the parking lot south of West Jay Community Center.
The permanent trailer at Jay County Sheriff’s Office is currently full and will not be emptied until Monday because of a scheduling issue. Residents are asked to take items to the other trailers at this time.
