Our opinions are not worth much

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

I’m writing in support of Jack Ronald’s July 19 column, “Being right isn’t much consolation.”

It’s becoming more evident that if you don’t agree with my way of thinking, especially about our federal elected leaders and the decisions they make, then your opinion counts for nothing.

One question I have wondered about in electing a representative to our United States Congress: Do I vote for you to represent my desire about a certain issue or do I vote for you to make my decisions for me?

On the state level, Rep. Greg Beumer sends me fliers for my opinion and also the results after the session. Kudos to him.

I don’t always agree with all that becomes law, but I will live with it.

There is no need to protest in Jay County. With all the turmoil in Washington, D.C., our leaders will never get even a portion of what was promised to “make America great again.”

We have already put some of our allies on notice that maybe they can’t depend on us to stand by them in future days of crisis.

With our “throw away society” and all the pollution we and the world produce, our children’s children will probably not find clean, healthy air to breathe. (This is in response to removing the U.S. from the clean-air initiative with other nations.)

I feel in my heart that the presidency deserves respect, but that respect needs to go both ways.

After reading Jack’s opinion, I want him to realize that “my opinion and 85 cents will buy a senior coffee at McDonald’s.”
