Thank you for helping to raise $

To the editor:

On June 24, the second annual Wiffle Ball Benefit Tournament was put on by Chad Funk, Brett Wagner and Dawn Keller for Beth Davidson Hunley.

In 2014, Beth was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. With this, the tissues between the air sacs in the lungs becomes scarred and tissue becomes stiff and thickens, making it harder for oxygen to pass through the walls of the air sacs into the bloodstream. Once lung tissue is scarred, this can’t be reversed, so a lung transplant is needed to survive.

With the great support of the community, family and friends in helping us make this a success, we were able to raise around $3,800 for Beth.

So many thanks need to go to:

•Chad for all his hard work, long hours, calls and messages, getting teams, food, scheduling and planning.

•Brett for helping with set-up, planning, teams, brackets and the all-day event.

•Jason McAbee for helping with the wiffle ball part of the day.

•Chad Funk for making the big sponsorship stand along with the tournament trophies himself for first place, second place, home run derby champ and MVP.

Huge thanks to our sponsors: David A. Fullenkamp Family Optometry, Brigade, Smith Brothers, Mainstream Furniture & Upholstery, T-Flyerz, employees of First Merchants Bank, the Funk family and Maria & Boone (Andrew Wellman).

Thanks also to:

•Dawn Keller for designing the flyer, getting it posted and the information read on the radio, organizing and being in charge of the silent auction and calls and messages.

•Rhonda Foltz for helping with getting and picking up auction items, calls and messages, set-up and tear-down, the 50/50 and drink cooler raffle and shirts.

Many thanks for the auction donations from Salon Karma, Adair’s Processing, Chelsea Grady, Ashley Knapschafer and her son Rowdy, Clear Chiropractic, Rhonda Foltz, The General Store Primitives & More, Holiday Inn, Bill and Malinda Elston, Linda Peters, Jay County REMC, Cheryl Bubp, Past and Present – Connie Fear, Patty Johnson, Buffalo Wings and Rings, Randy and Valerie Smith, Pit’s, Jay County Antique Mall, Remember When, Tom and Tracy Leonard, Whittni Houston, The Tipsy Glass winery, Chad Funk, Portland Golf Club, J-J’s Greek’s Pizzeria, Dick’s Pizza Palace, Upperkut Salon, Jay Beverage, Edward Jones, Greazy Pickle and Schmit Chiropractic.

Shirts were also sold to show support for Beth. We want to thank Beth for coming up with the design, Chad and Rhonda for the time it took to organize the sales, T-Flyers for making the shirts and donating a portion of the proceeds and Bill and Malinda Elston, Lexie Logan and Beth Hunley for selling and delivering the shirts.

Thanks to Chelsea Grady for doing a great job keeping the kids entertained with face painting. Beth’s granddaughters and their mom Lindsay Sain did a great job selling lemonade to help raise money for their grandma.

To everyone who donated baked goods for the concession stand, thank you.

Thank you also to Ryan Myers for allowing us to use the concession stand and the restrooms at the pee-wee field again this year.

A huge thank you to the volunteers who helped the day before and day of the event with setting up and tearing down, grilling food and working the concession stand, working the auction area, pictures and registration table and handling the drink cooler and 50/50 raffle.

To all 14 teams that came out to play wiffle ball in support of Beth, great job to all of you.

Congratulations to Matt Street for winning the home run derby and being the MVP. The team winner was Son of a Pitch.

To everyone who came to watch games, bid on items, buy food, drinks and raffle tickets, donate money and just have fun, or if you couldn’t make it that day and sent good wishes and prayers, thank you so much for helping in making this a success for Beth and her family.

If we have forgotten to mention anyone or any place, we apologize. There was so much support for Beth.

Again, thanks to all who helped in making this benefit for Beth Davidson Hunley and her family a success.

Chad Funk, Brett Wagner and Dawn Keller
