Deer struck
Two drivers reported hitting deer with their vehicles Thursday.
Jed A. Williamson, 59, 9518 W. 300 South, Dunkirk, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling east on county road 200 South near its intersection with Como Road when a deer ran out in front of his 2000 Chevrolet 1500.
Damage in the 9:20 a.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
David L. Vangordon, 59, 1411 S. 300 East, Hartford City, told the sheriff’s office he was traveling north on Indiana 1 near county road 900 North when a deer ran out in front of his truck. He was unable to avoid hitting it with his 2015 Chevrolet Silverado.
Damage in the 11:11 a.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Improper lane use
A semi truck hit a parked car in the Sonoco parking lot Thursday.
David W. Andrews, 9638 W. 300 South, Dunkirk, told Portland Police Department he saw a semi truck coming very close to his 2011 Chevrolet Impala, which was parked in the Sonoco parking lot, 1619 N. Meridian St. He said he saw his car move when the semi truck hit it.
Philip D. Leech III, 38, 4609 S. Sulby St., Marion, told police he was moving over in his lane to let another truck go around him. He said he came close to Andrews’ car, but never made contact with it. Leech was driving a 2016 Kenworth T600, registered to First Option Inc., 3072 W. Delphi Pike, Marion.
A witness told police he saw the semi’s rear passenger side tire hit the rear end of the Impala.
Police attributed the accident to improper lane usage by Leech. Total damage in the 8:16 a.m. collision is estimated to be less than $1,000.
Office closing
Portland’s water office will be closed from noon to 1 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Payments can still be dropped off in the night deposit box during those hours.
Order lifted
The boil order that was previously in effect for Dunkirk residents has been lifted.
