Capsule Reports
One injured
A Dunkirk teen was injured in a vehicle rollover Sunday night northwest of Portland.
Jessica D. Nemeth, 17, 404 Layne Drive, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala south on county road 450 West, near the intersection with county road 300 North, when she lost control on the stone road. The Impala traveled off the west side of the road and rolled, coming to a stop upside-down and trapping Nemeth inside.
Nemeth called 911, but wasn’t sure of her location. First responders eventually found her by sounding their air horn while she was on the phone with the Jay County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher, who relayed information to rescue personnel.
Once first responders were able to get her out of the overturned Impala, Nemeth was treated for elbow and lower arm injuries and transported to Jay County Hospital.
The Impala she was driving is registered to David A. Johanns, same address as driver. Damage in the 10:30 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Three car crash
Three vehicles were damaged in an accident Sunday afternoon southwest of Portland.
Lindsay K. Moore, 21, 936 W. Main St., Portland, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office that she was driving her 2008 Ford Edge southwest on Indiana 67 when a westbound 1998 Buick LeSabre failed to stop at a stop sign on the east side of the intersection with county road 200 South. Moore’s Edge struck the LeSabre, and then struck a 2003 Ford F150 that was stopped at the stop sign on the west side of the intersection.
According to the accident report, the driver of the LeSabre, Michelle A. Nickelson, 48, 1519 Elwood Ave., South Bend, admitted that she did not stop at the stop sign.
The driver of the F150, David W. Hahn, 48, 1688 S. Indiana 1, Portland, also said Nickelson disregarded the stop sign.
Damage in the 3:30 p.m. accident was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
