Capsule Reports
Two injured
Two Redkey residents were injured in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.
Dustin Louck, 38, was driving his 1991 Ford Probe with passenger Heather Louck, 39, south on county road 1150 West near county road 1000 North when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree.
Emergency responders from both Jay and Randolph counties arrived at the scene at 6:27 a.m. Loucks was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital with injuries.
The accident remained under investigation as of Sunday, according to a Randolph County Sheriff’s Department press release.
Pedestrian struck
A Bryant woman was struck with a vehicle while walking across Meridian Street on Friday afternoon in Portland.
Nancy E. Reed, 64, 6047 N. U.S. 27, was walking west across Meridian Street at the intersection with Main Street when she was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer driven by Robert L. Carlin, 26, 3149 E. 800 South.
Carlin was turning north from Main Street when he struck Reed with the vehicle registered to Ashley N. Wombacker, Portland, 587 E. 400 North. According to the police report, Carlin was distracted while driving.
Reed was taken to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment of a head injury.
Damage in the 4:33 p.m. accident is estimated between $10,000 to $25,000.
Dog struck
A Ridgeville man hit a dog with his car early Sunday morning.
Joshua W. Ward, 33, 7046 N. 100 West, was traveling south on Indiana 1 near its intersection with county road 500 South when a dog ran out in front of his 2017 Chevrolet Silverado. Ward was unable to avoid hitting the dog.
Damage in the 2:22 a.m. collision is estimated between $1,000 to $2,500.
Backing accident
A Union City woman struck a parked vehicle with the van she was driving Sunday afternoon in Portland.
Ann M. Funk, 37, 314 W. Oak St., told Portland Police Department she was backing a 2005 Chevrolet Venture out of a parking space in the parking lot of FCC Indiana, 555 Industrial Park Drive, when she accidentally struck a parked Chevrolet SV1.
The SV1 is registered to Roger Renz, 204 E. High St., Portland. The Venture is registered to Ramon Cantu, 631 E. North St., Union City.
Damage in the 2:13 p.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Deer struck
A Hagerstown man struck a deer with a semi truck Friday night in Portland.
Joshua B. Gentry, 36, 4359 Indiana 1, told Portland Police Department he was driving a 2007 Kenworth semi south on Meridian Street, at the intersection with Twelfth Street, when a deer jumped into the roadway and was struck by the semi.
The semi is registered to Maxwell Milling of Indiana, same address as driver.
Damage in the 10:46 p.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
