Police encounter was a positive one
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Either through flawed character or a product of immaturity (perhaps a combination of both, my opinion of law enforcement officers can generally be identified as less than stellar.
But occasionally an incident will surface rendering a temporary stay of negative judgment. Having revealed the above, I’ll reach deep inside for clarification.
Around 7 p.m. Feb. 25, a Portland police officer stopped me at the corner of Blaine Pike and Water Street. (I failed to use a turn signal.)
Running my license and registration resulted in no red flags.
The officer’s name escapes me, but his conduct was exemplary. Without forfeiting professionalism, he exercised extreme courtesy and treated me with the utmost respect. On departing, he extended his hand and I received it.
Public recognition here is deserving.
The positive impact of this encounter may not eliminate my overall skepticism of law officers, but I came away favorably impressed.
(No citation issued.)
Respectfully,
Roy Leverich
Portland
Thank you
To the editor:
Portland Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came out to the chili lunch to support us.
We had a very successful day in raising money for our awards banquet and raised enough that we will be donating to several local charities.
This is a list of people and businesses that made this day possible. Without their support, this day would not haven taken place.
•Families of Portland firefighters
•WPGW
•Richard’s Restaurant
•Asbury United Methodist Church
•Vicki’s Playhouse
•Razor’s Edge Beauty Salon
•Missy Putterbaugh
•The Greazy Pickle
Thank you also to all the Portland firefighters who donated the chili, supplies and their time to make the day a huge success.
Sincerely,
Mike Weitzel
Portland Fire Chief
