Percussion third
Jay County High School’s indoor percussion ensemble put together a strong performance Saturday.
Competing in the Scholastic A Marching Class (PSA) at Greenfield-Central, Jay County took third place behind Beech Grove and DeKalb. The group will compete again Saturday at Warsaw.
Guard advances
The Jay Patriot Winter Guard has advanced to the Indiana High School Color Guard Association state semifinals.
JCHS placed 10th in the Regional A class at Mooresville to qualify for the next round. The top 12 from each of two regionals earned berths in the semifinal round, which will be contested Saturday at Plainfield.
Pole struck
A Montpelier man struck a utility pole with his vehicle while avoiding a deer Sunday morning near Pennville.
Robert D. Fields, 25, 562 S. Jefferson St., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office that he was driving his 2009 Pontiac G6 west on county road 450 North, east of county road 1150 West, when a deer ran into the roadway. Fields swerved to avoid striking the deer, and his G6 went into the ditch and struck a utility pole.
Damage in the 7:30 a.m. accident was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
