Citizenship story was refreshing
To the editor:
I have said before but it bears repeating of how much I enjoy Jack Ronald's writing, both in style and substance.
His prose flows freely enough that I don't have to (unlike reading George Will) run to my online dictionary to understand what he is expressing.
I really enjoyed his two-part Back in the Saddle column on his attendance at a citizenship ceremony for a friend.
Given the current political climate, it was refreshing to read what a very special and moving occasion it is for people wanting to become part of the “American Experience.”
It was especially poignant to learn these people had such faith in the people and institutions of the United States. They willingly pledged their allegiance to what they did not yet know but were courageous enough to try.
What a difference it is to reach out a hand in friendship, rather than build walls based on fear and ignorance.
Thanks, Jack.
