Stay away from recreational drugs
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
On April 17, I had an experience that I feel I must share with others.
On that day at 12:30 p.m., I had knee replacement surgery. I know that I am not the only person to have this surgery. Thousands have had it as well.
As I was being prepped for surgery, the doctor was explaining everything to me; that they would be using Morphine as the numbing agent for the block they did in my back. Everything proceeded as planned until I woke up a little early, I guess.
As well as I can remember, I was having a reaction to the drugs used. I caused a lot of ruckus, trying to get out of bed, get up and move around and carrying on. I was being very combative and so forth. I just recently turned 79 in February and I can tell you that this is not the proper way for a grown man to act. They did manage to calm me down, and I awoke in the recovery room at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, and everything proceeded normally from there. But it was not over yet.
Several times during the night, I woke up with the sensation that I was floating around my room, and this occurred the second night also. I was scared as I told my family about it. They all said that it was probably the drugs I was receiving.
I am not saying this to seek sympathy in any way. The only thing I want from this experience is to say if there is anyone, elderly, adult or teenager, who would just think twice before using any recreational drugs. It is not worth it. If this helps someone make that choice, then that is all I need.
And now I must talk to my God and my Family. Also, I have one more letter to write to the people in the surgical recovery unit at Ball.
May God bless you all,
Billy Jobe
