Memories can't be taken away
Letters to the editor
To the editor:
To those students, former students, parents, teachers and Mr. Rex Pinkerton, principal of Pennville Elementary School.
I along with many other former students in Jay County feel your pain.
Eight other schools were closed, including Portland, Poling, Pennville, Redkey, Dunkirk, Gray, Madison and Bright high schools. To add insult to injury, the school corporation tore down some of those buildings.
At Bryant, the gym was saved due to the fact that residents from Bearcreek, Wabash and Jackson townships donated money to build the gym. It is now owned by Bearcreek Township and managed by a board of directors known as the Bryant Area Community Center.
Next school year the Pennville students will attend another school, they will grow up but their love and memories will always be at Pennville Elementary.
I graduated from Bryant High School in 1957. Do your math. Yes, that’s 60 years. We will be celebrating at the Bryant Area Community Center on May 20. The class of 1957 will be celebrating from 1 to 4 p.m. at Jay County Historical Museum. Stop and share your memories with us.
I, along with many of my classmates, have 12 years of memories at Bryant school and no one can take our memories from us.
Sincerely,
Betty (Miller) Stone
