Inman to resign as commissioner

Doug Inman announced Monday that he is resigning his position as Jay County Commissioner effective May 31.

Inman, who is in the third year of his first term representing the middle district, was married April 28 in Fort Wayne to Lori Davis, the daughter of former Portland residents Bill and Mary Davis.

He said Monday that he has sold his house in Portland and expects to be moving out of the district.

“Being a commissioner is a lot more than sitting here on Monday,” he said. “It does take time to do this job. This county is a business and deserves to be run like a business.”

Inman will continue in his role as executive director of The Portland Foundation.

He has served as president of the county commissioners this year and has been deeply involved in a number of community projects including John Jay Center for Learning, the 20/20 Vision strategic plan and Jay County Development Corporation, among others.

His final meeting as a commissioner will be May 22.
