Backing accident
A Portland man struck a parked vehicle with his car Saturday afternoon in Portland.
Kent E. Jenkins, 35, 422 Reed Street, told Portland Police Department he was backing his 2012 Hyundai Tucson out of a parking space at the Portland First Church of the Nazarene, 920 S. Shank St., when he failed to see a parked 2013 Dodge Journey and struck it with his Tucson.
The Journey is registered to Randy and Carolyn Geesaman, 219 Floral Ave., Portland. Damage in the 2:50 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Three car accident
A Bryant man and two Portland women were involved in a three vehicle accident Saturday morning in Portland.
Erica D. Larson, 47, 415 W. Walnut St., told Portland Police Department she was in her 2016 Kia Sportage heading south on Meridian Street and had stopped for the traffic light at the intersection with High Street. Larson’s Sportage was then struck in the rear by a 2007 Dodge Caliber, driven by Patricia L. Waters, 50, 1226 S. Boundary Pike. Waters’ Caliber had been struck from behind by a 2006 Mercury Milan, causing it to move forward and strike Larson’s stopped Kia.
Darrell Stout, 59, 7616 N. 350 East, Bryant, told police the light had turned green when the two vehicles in front of him braked suddenly. The other two drivers said the light was red at the time of the accident. Police attributed the cause of the accident to Stout driving at an unsafe speed and disregarding a traffic signal.
Damage in the 10:32 a.m. accident was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
