Pack was a rewarding experience

Letters to the editor

To the editor:

If memory serves, the first time I heard about Feed My Starving Children it was from my son, a first grader at South Adams.

He came home from school talking about a fundraiser being sponsored by Dots in Blue Water. He wanted our family to donate. Could we help?

Our church got involved and the more I heard about it the more I knew that this was something worth getting behind. Feed My Starving Children relies heavily on volunteers and more than 90 percent of funds raised go directly toward food production. I was glad our church and my son’s school were taking part in such an important ministry.

Then the National Honor Society at Jay County High School sponsored another event, and this time I got to be an active participant. It is not an experience I will soon forget. It was organized, efficient, uncomplicated work, and also lots and lots of fun. Our session lasted around two hours, but the time just raced by as we packed thousands of MannaPacks, cheered when our team completed a box (36 packs) and chatted with our teammates, all underscored by the energizing music.

Best of all, as the name of the organization advertises, our efforts would be providing food to people who are hungry. The packs will be sent all over the world where it can be distributed to those in need.

To say that this was a rewarding experience would be an understatement. I was told that the NHS is planning on holding another event next year and I’m excited about being a part of it.
