Bus struck
A Jay County school bus transporting students was involved in a rear-end collision Tuesday morning.
Allison E. Franks, 64, 815 W. Walnut St., Portland, was stopped behind the bus going north on Wayne Street near its intersection with Water Street in front of East Jay Middle School. She told Portland Police Department she began to drive forward when the bus moved. She then looked down and her 2008 Dodge Caravan struck the rear of the bus.
Nancy D. Strait, 64, 1798 N. 400 East, Portland, was driving the 2005 INECR CE300 school bus, registered to Jay School Corporation, 2378 W. 75 South, Portland. There were nine students on the bus, but no injuries were reported.
Damage in the 7:41 a.m. accident is estimated to be less than $1,000.
Hit and run
An unknown driver backed into a parked truck Tuesday in the Walgreens parking lot in Portland.
Two witnesses told Portland Police Department they saw the man flee the parking lot at 124 W. Votaw St. One witness observed a silver car back out of a parking spot and strike the parked car. The driver reportedly then attempted to fix his own bumper before driving away.
A second witness said he heard the crash and saw the man attempt to fix his bumper, then get back in his car and drive west on Votaw Street.
The parked car, a 2012 Ford F150, is registered to Rex O. Powell, 7430 S. 250 West, Portland.
Damage in the 3:58 p.m. crash is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Laptop stolen
A Portland woman reported her laptop stolen off a porch Tuesday evening.
Haley R. Stone, 20, 234 E. Water St., told Portland Police Department she was working on her computer on a porch around 7 p.m. at 205 W. Lafayette St., Portland, when she went inside to get something. When she returned, her Lenovo laptop was missing. There is a suspect who police are attempting to locate.
The laptop was valued at $900.
