Sportsman organizers say thanks

Letters to the editor

To the editor:

The second annual Sportsman Outdoor Sale and Show is complete and we have spent a few weeks looking at this year’s event and how we can improve the show for 2018.

The show grew much larger than we anticipated in one year and along with that came growing pains but good ones. Focusing on children was a great idea and we are sure that was a determining factor for a successful event. One of the ideas this year was giving more than 500 rod and reels to children younger 16. The fishing pond was awesome, and the good vibes we received proved that.

Special thanks go to:

•Rob and Susan Moser of Moser Engineering of Portland as our corporate sponsor. This was awesome and very much appreciated. Thank you.

•Jay County Visitors and Tourism Bureau director Gyneth Augsburger for your support financially, and helping with the advertisement section that got us all over the state.

•All the business, organizations and, individuals that gave money to buy the rods and reels to give to kids. It was was spectacular. More than $6,000 was given to fund this program, all coming from the great people that live, work or supply goods in Jay County.

•Jay County Sheriff Dwane Ford and the parents and students of the Jay County High School archery teams who manned the gates and parked cars. You were also a great part of this year’s event.

•Chrissy Krieg and the JCHS chapter of the National Honor Society leading the Feed My Starving Children project. Your assistance and help was greatly appreciated.

Finally, thanks to “all” the people from Jay County and the surrounding area for attending and supporting the event. We are all proud of Jay County Fairgrounds and how it enhances our community.

A very special thanks to all the people that helped work, set up and take down the show.

All profit from this event will go to meeting our part of the $160,000 grant from The Portland Foundation for the renovation of the grandstand at Jay County Fairgrounds. If you have an extra dollar, please consider helping with this renovation and improvement that will last for decades and improve the safety and accessibility of the grandstand. Make your check out to The Portland Foundation Jay County Fairgrounds Grandstand Renovation Project and your donation will be tax deductible.

Once again, thank you for supporting this event.
