Narcotic possession
A Ridgeville man was sentenced recently in Jay Superior Court on drug possession charges.
Jonathan A. Shockley, 27, 6793 N. U.S. 27, pleaded guilty to possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony. He was sentenced to 18 months in Jay County Jail, with all but 180 days suspended and given 126 days credit for 63 days already served.
Shockley was assessed $183 in court costs, ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee, a $400 Jay Superior Court Substance Abuse Program fee and was placed on formal probation for 12 months.
Battery
A Portland man originally charged with a felony in Randolph Superior Court had his charges amended as part of a plea agreement.
Thomas A. Oswalt, 42, 208 Meridian Heights, pleaded guilty to battery, a Class B misdemeanor. He was originally charged in November 2016 for sexual battery, a Level 6 felony, for allegedly touching a 22-year-old female inappropriately at Oswalt Funeral Home, 1212 E. 100 South, Winchester.
For the amended misdemeanor charge, Oswalt was sentenced to 180 days in Randolph County Jail, with all 180 days suspended. He was also fined $100 and assessed $183 in court costs.
Meth possession
A Portland woman and a Winchester woman were sentenced recently in Jay Superior Court on methamphetamine possession charges.
Cierra M. Rockwood, 21, 1007 Blaine Pike, Portland, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail, with all but 22 days suspended and given 22 days credit for 11 days already served.
She was assessed $183 in court costs, ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee and a $400 Jay Superior Court Substance Abuse Program fee and was placed on formal probation for 11 months. As a part of a plea agreement, an additional charge of unlawful possession of a syringe was dismissed.
Krystal D. Melton, 27, 501 E, North St. Apartment A, Winchester, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony. She was sentenced to one year in Jay County Jail, with all but 90 days suspended and given 26 days credit for 13 days already served. She will serve the remaining 64 days of her sentence on electronically monitored home detention less any days she spent in Jay County Jail before May 12.
Melton was fined $1, assessed court costs of $183, ordered to pay a $200 drug abuse, prosecution, interdiction and correction fee, a $400 Jay Superior Court Substance Abuse Program fee and was placed on formal probation for 9 months.
