Drove off road

A Muncie woman’s car was damaged Friday night when she drove off of Indiana 67.

Melissa G. Arellano, 40, 2401 N. Walnut St., Apartment 4SG, was driving northeast on Indiana 67 near its intersection with county road 700 South when her vehicle left the road, hitting a guardrail. She told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she wasn’t distracted and had no reason to leave the roadway. Arellano was driving her 2000 Ford Taurus.

Damage in the 10:57 p.m. accident is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.



Hit and run

A car registered to the City of Portland was damaged Friday morning in a hit and run accident.

The car, a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria, registered at 321 N. Meridian St., was parked at the Richards Family Restaurant, 1615 N. Meridian St. Two witnesses told the Portland Police Department they observed a large white truck back into the Crown Victoria and then leave the parking lot.

Damage in the 9:28 a.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.



Failure to yield

Vehicles driven by a Portland woman and a Portland teen collided Friday morning after one of them failed to yield at a stop sign.

Brittany N. Newsome, 31, 618 N. Ship St., was heading south on Ben Hawkins Avenue toward Indiana 26. She attempted to turn east onto Indiana 26 and her 2003 Mercury Mountaineer was struck by a westbound 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by Amanda L. Ferguson, 17, 1454 E. Indiana 26.

Ferguson told Jay County Sheriff’s Office that the Mountaineer pulled out in front of her. Newsome was cited for failing to yield at a stop sign.

Damage in the 7:51 a.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.



Overcorrecting accident

A Redkey woman lost control of her vehicle and struck a utility pole Friday night.

Megan M. Smith, 18, 1347 S. Meridian St., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was traveling north on county road 825 West just north of county road 200 South when she lost control of her vehicle on the stone surface. After she overcorrected, Smith’s 2012 Acura Honda TSX went off the west side of the road and into a ditch, striking a utility pole before coming to a stop.

Damage in the 11:27 p.m. accident is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.



Backing crash

A Portland woman’s car struck a parked vehicle Sunday when she was backing out of the Circle K parking lot.

Karen C. Jenkins, 49, 420 E. Walnut St., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was backing her 2007 Mercedes out of the gas station at 729 S. Meridian St. She said she did not see a vehicle behind her and her vehicle struck a 2007 Cadillac registered to Cindy L. Colvin, 58, 617 N. Portland St., Ridgeville.

Damage in the 12:48 p.m. accident is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
