Pennville club says thank you

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

The Just Say No Club from Pennville Elementary would like to say thank you to Portland Police Department and Jay County Sheriff’s Office for coming to our lock-in meeting May 12.

Portland Police Chief Nathan Springer has been gracious enough to come to several of our meetings and has shared valuable information about what happens when drugs and alcohol are abused and the consequences. Deputies Brad Wendel and Tyler Hartzell, and Sgt. Ben Schwartz, of Jay County Sheriff’s Office brought a dog from the K9 unit which is trained to defend and to find drugs.

The students watched a great demonstration of skill between the dog and deputies Wendel and Hartzell. I know the students were exposed to great information that will help them make wise choices in the future.

We applaud all of your efforts following National Police Week, which concluded Saturday.
