Rollover
A rural Portland man was injured about 1:35 a.m.Tuesday when he lost control of his 1999 Ford Ranger pick-up on county road 400 South near county road 200 West. The pick-up, driven by Chad M. LeMaster, 39, left the roadway and rolled over.
Jay County police said the driver had been drinking. Blood alcohol tests are pending. Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Hits deer
A Dunkirk woman complained of chest pain after her car struck a deer on Indiana 67 about 500 feet north of its intersection with Indiana 26 at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Kristy G. Ridgway, 39, told Jay County police she was rounding the curve when the deer ran into the roadway.
Damage to the 2002 Buick Century she was driving, registered to Stevie L. Garrett, Dunkirk, was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
County crash
Two Jay County women were involved in a two-vehicle accident about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday at Indiana 167 and county road 200 North.
Lacey A. Wentz, 36, rural Dunkirk, told Jay County police she was eastbound on county road 200 North and had stopped at the intersection with Indiana 167 but did not see an oncoming northbound vehicle driven by Audrey R. Avey, 24, rural Pennville. When the Wentz vehicle proceeded into the intersection, the two vehicles collided, resulting in between $1,000 and $2,500 in damage.
Two-car mishap
Portland police investigated a two-car accident at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday at Wayne and Water streets.
Charles N. McBride, 28, Portland, told police he was at the stop sign southbound on Wayne Street and did not see an oncoming westbound car on Water Street driven by Jennifer L. Smith, 44, Portland. He proceeded into the intersection and the vehicles collided.
Damage to Smith’s 2012 Chrysler and McBride’s 2006 Chevrolet was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Rear struck
Between $2,500 and $5,000 in damage was reported in a two-car accident at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday at Western Avenue and Votaw Street.
Allison E. Franks, 35, Portland, told city police she wasn’t paying attention when her 1995 Buick struck the rear of a 2005 Saturn driven by Angel L. Villegas, 37, Portland. Both vehicles were westbound when the Villegas car stopped because of traffic ahead and was struck in the rear.
Hits pole
Less than $1,000 in damage was reported Tuesday when a motor home driven by Darrel B. Brewster, 87, Peculiar, Missouri, struck a pole while turning in a parking lot at 990 W. Votaw St., Portland.
The accident occurred about 10:15 a.m.
In area courts
An area resident was recently sentenced in Adams Superior Court.
Lonnie L. Ullom, Portland, was found guilty of maintaining a common nuisance, a Level 6 felony, and possession of a marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor. For the felony, Ullom was sentenced to one year in jail with all but 275 days suspended. For the misdemeanor, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail to be served concurrently with the first sentence. He was also placed on probation for six months.
Zachary L. Williams, 22, Redkey, who pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, having a blood-alcohol concentration above the legal limit, speeding and a tail light violation, was sentenced recently in Celina (Ohio) Municipal Court. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail, assessed a $650 fine, had his license suspended for one year, and was ordered to use an Ignition Interlock Device for driving rights and receive alcohol assessment.
Also fined in Celina Municipal Court were Kevin Brunswick, 59, Fort Recovery, signal light violation, $100; and Andrew J. Wendel, 29, Fort Recovery, failure to wear a seatbelt, $116.
