Head on collision
Two accidents occurred within minutes of each other on Indiana 67 on Wednesday afternoon, injuring four people.
Michael D. Kinner, 63, Anderson, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving south on Indiana 67 near its intersection with Indiana 26 when he looked down at his phone to make a call. When he looked up, he was in the oncoming lane and collided with a 2006 Chrysler 300, which Devin L. Foltz, 18, Dunkirk, was driving north on Indiana 67. The Chrysler, registered to Aaron D. Lairson, Portland, spun out of control, went off the south side of the road and came to a stop next to a sculpture in front of the WPGW radio building.
Kinner said he had not slept the night before and it was possible he had fallen asleep. He was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, registered to Terminix International Company LP, Mount Laurel, New Jersey.
Foltz, 18, Dunkirk, complained of pain in her leg and was treated at the scene. Kinner complained of a bruise on his lower arm.
Damage in the 3:50 p.m. collision is estimated between $10,000 and $25,000.
Shortly after, Michael W. Davis, 58, Portland, was driving north on Indiana 67 when the car in front of him stopped because of the accident that had just occurred. When Davis stopped his 2000 Chevrolet, his vehicle was struck from behind by Debra Sutton’s car. Sutton, 41, Geneva, was driving her 2016 Chrysler Jeep.
Two of Davis’ passengers suffered injuries and were treated at the scene. Donald Davis, 54, and Peggy McGaughey, 79, both of Portland, complained of neck pain.
Damage in the collision is estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

Nuckols, 24, Salamonia, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving south on county road 400 East near its intersection with county road 400 South when a deer ran into the roadway and struck the side of the 2004 Chevrolet Traverse he was driving.
