Jay football to open sectional at home
Patriots host Logansport Berries to open Class 4A Sectional 20
INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriots will host a team they’ve never played before.
The Starfires get a team they know all too well.
In the IHSAA sectional pairings released Sunday, the Jay County High School football team received an opening-round matchup with the Logansport Berries.
South Adams will meet county rival Adams Central.
Jay County (2-5), which has lost four consecutive games, will host the Logansport Berries (4-3) to open the Class 4A Sectional 20 tournament on Oct. 20. The winner advances to the Oct. 27 semifinal against either the Columbia City Eagles (4-3) or the Wayne Generals (3-4).
The other opening-round games pit the Leo Lions (5-2) on the road at the second-ranked New Haven Bulldogs (7-0). The No. 10 Bishop Dwenger Saints (5-2) host the South Side Archers (1-6). The sectional championship is slated for Nov. 3.
South Adams (6-1), which has won three sectional titles in the last four years, hits the road to open a loaded Class A Sectional 43 tournament at the Adams Central Flying Jets (5-2). The Jets dismantled the Starfires 42-14 on Sept. 22.
The Class 1A Sectional 43 field has six of the eight teams with records of 5-2 or better.
The winner between the Starfires and Jets advances to the semifinal against either the Northfield Norsemen (6-1) or the fourth-ranked Churubusco Eagles (6-1). The Eagles host the Norsemen Oct. 20.
Other quarterfinal games have the No. 10 Eastside Blazers (5-2) hosting the Southern Wells Raiders (1-6) and the Fremont Eagles (0-7) traveling to take on the Southwood Knights (6-1).
