Hospital board members chatted with Jay County’s newest surgeon Wednesday via Skype.
Dr. Monzur Haque, who signed on with the hospital in September, connected with board members thanks to an internet connection.
Haque, who is completing his surgery residency at Easton Hospital at Drexel University College of Medicine in Pennsylvania, will be joining the team at Tri-County Surgery. A captain in the U.S. Army Reserves, he serves as surgical house officer at Easton Hospital.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Ramapo College of New Jersey, graduating summa cum laude, then taught high school physics and calculus before attending medical school at Drexel. In addition to his residency in general surgery, he also did his internship at Easton.
Haque will be launching his practice in Jay County in June 2018.
“We are super excited,” he told the board Wednesday. Though he had interviewed at a number of hospitals, “my heart kept coming back to Jay County.”
He’s a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Vascular Surgery, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
He has a patent pending for a pulse emitting stent and detection probe.
Dr. Haque and his wife have 3-year-old twins and a 7-year-old.
