NOBLESVILLE — Jay County High School’s volleyball team finished 2-2 Saturday in the Noblesville Invitational.
The Patriots (7-7) lost to Brownsburg (25-15, 25-19) and Noblesville (25-9, 25-8) before bouncing back with wins over Franklin Central (26-24, 25-23) and Frankfort (25-13, 25-18).
Kaelyn Weaver paced the Patriot offense throughout the tournament by totaling 37 kills, including a 13-kill effort against Franklin Central.
Sophomore Olivia Kunkler (13 kills) and her freshman sister Alana (10 kills) were second and third respectively. Alana Kunkler racked up a team-best eight blocks, while classmate Natalie Miles totaled five blocks.
Senior Chloe Trissel led the team with 24 digs. Juniors Kailee Denney and Maggie Pryor had 23 digs apiece. Denney also contributed 55 assists, including 20 against Frankfort.
Stars win Wabash
WABASH — The South Adams volleyball team won the Wabash Invitational on Saturday for the third consecutive year.
The Starfires (13-3) defeated Bluffton (25-11, 25-14), University (25-16, 25-9) and Wabash (26-24, 19-24, 15-13) in the championship match.
Madi Wurster racked up 30 kills and five blocks to lead South Adams in both categories. Addie Wanner was second on the team with 24 kills. Bella Bailey’s 19 digs led the team, as did her 58 assists in place of Julia Grabau.
Shania Neal and Wurster both had 15 digs, as Shaelynn Bowman had eight kills and Jade Farlow had six.
Bella Bailey had a team-high five aces.
SA girls win
BERNE — South Adams’ girls soccer team moved to .500 on the season Saturday with a 4-2 win over the Union County Patriots.
The Starfires (4-4) and Patriots were tied 2-2 heading into halftime before the hosts scored a pair of goals in the final 40 minutes to get the victory.
Kayla LeFever had two goals in leading the Starfires. She also notched an assist. Lexi Dellinger scored once and assisted on a goal, and Madi Smith also hit twice for a goal.
Jenna Myers made 23 saves as the SAHS goalkeeper.
Tribe tops Tigers
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams hosted the Ansonia Tigers on Saturday and sent them home with losses.
The FRMS seventh graders won 25-12, 25-18, and the eighth grade Indians earned a 25-12, 25-18 win.
Danielle Brown and Brookelyn Jutte had six kills apiece, while Abby Knapke chipped in six kills. Allysen Fullenkamp, Amy Stammen and Faith Wendel had seven assists each. Audra Bubp’s four digs and four aces were a team-best.
Whitley Rammel led the eighth graders with seven kills and five service points. Marissa Gaerke tallied five kills and a block, and Melissa Laux had three kills. Madelyn Knapke had eight assists, and Rammel added a pair of digs.
