Semi trailer tipped
A Rossburg, Ohio, man was involved in an accident that tipped the trailer of semi, killing dozens of hogs.
Larry G. Yohey, 62, was driving a 2000 Mack semi west on Indiana 26, turning north onto Indiana 1. He told police he saw a southbound vehicle coming toward his vehicle and in order to avoid a collision, he cut the semi’s turn short, causing the passenger side tires to go off in a ditch.
Yohey got out of the truck to survey the situation, and the trailer tipped over into the ditch.
The truck was hauling approximately 190 hogs, and the police accident report said most of them died as a result of the accident.
Damage in the 4:20 p.m. accident was estimated between $25,000 and $50,000.
Car rolled
A Muncie man rolled his car in a one-vehicle accident Saturday evening northwest of Portland.
Jerrod A. Hummer, 37, Muncie, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving his 2007 Buick Lucerne west on county road 200 North, passing through the intersection with county road 200 West, when his Buick went off the road, struck a culvert and rolled into a cornfield.
Hummer was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor.
Damage in the 5:45 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Deer
A Pennville man struck a tree with his vehicle this morning while avoiding a deer northwest of Portland.
Daniel J. Emery, 50, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving his 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan east on county road 400 North, when he came over a crest and saw a deer in the middle of the road. Emery swerved to miss the deer and struck a mailbox and tree before his Grand Caravan came to a stop in the ditch on the south side of the road.
Damage in the 4:05 a.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
