Mirror collision

Two vehicles collided early Monday morning on county road 300 South.

David L. Estep Jr., 50, Salamonia, was driving west on county road 300 South just near its intersection with county road 300 East. According to a Jay County Sheriff’s Office report, his 2000 Ford Excursion went left of center, striking the side of Adam R. May’s 2011 Dodge Ram 1500. May, 31, Portland, was driving east on county road 300 South. Both vehicles sustained damage to their mirrors, and Estep’s car had a broken window.

Damage in the 7:25 a.m. collision is estimated to be less than $1,000.

Drove off road

A Portland teen drove a car off the road Monday after he failed to see a stop sign.

Charles E. Brunswick, 16, was driving south on county road 150 East approaching its T-intersection with county road 300 North. He told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he didn’t see the stop sign at the intersection because of fog and continued south, driving off the road and striking a utility pole. He was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro, registered to Daniel I. Davidson, Portland.

Damage in the 8 a.m. accident is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

Deer struck

A Portland woman struck a deer with the truck she was driving Monday night, causing an estimated $1,000 to $2,500 in damage.

Angellica M. Reynard, 21, was driving north on county road 700 East just past its intersection with Indiana 26 at 9:25 p.m. when a deer ran into the road. Reynard told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was unable to avoid striking it with the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500, registered to Kyle D. Loydreier, Portland.

Counterfeit bills

A business in Pennville received two counterfeit $100 bills.

Jay County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident at AB’s Tires Service, 110 N. Union St. The customer who had paid with the bills told sheriff’s deputies he most likely got them when he sold a car to someone a few months ago.

Area courts

Michael L. Hough, Geneva, was found guilty in Adams Superior Court to battery on a person under the age of 14, a Class B misdemeanor. He was sentenced to six months in jail, with all of the sentence suspended. He was placed on probation for six months.
