Entrance crash
Two Portland residents were involved in a traffic collision Friday at the entrance to Walmart.
Trey A. Castillo, 17, told Portland police he was driving west of Votaw Street when a vehicledriven by Katera D. Bisel, 20, attempted to pull out of the the entrance to Walmart, 950 W. Votaw Street. Bisel’s 2010 Honda Civic struck the side of the 2000 Toyota Celica, registered to Francene R. Castillo, Portland, that Trey Castillo was driving.
Bisel said her view was obscured by a third vehicle that was turning into the Walmart entrance.
Damage in the 4:48 p.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Struck in rear
An Archbold, Ohio, man’s vehicle was struck from behind Friday on Meridian Street in Portland.
Tracey N. Wyse, 51, told Portland police he was headed South on Meridian Street near Rogers Street when the truck he was driving was struck from behind by a 2007 Ford Escape. Julian M. Gibson, 20, Carmel, told police he fell asleep, leading to his vehicle striking Wyse’s truck, which is registered to Sauder Woodworking, 502 Middle St., Archbold.
In the 8:13 a.m. collision,damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
Sign hit
A Ridgeville teen struck a sign with the vehicle he was driving Friday morning.
Mason P. Winner, 16, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving north on Indiana 67 when another vehicle was approaching heading south. Winner said his vision was obscured by the sun and his vehicle went off the east side of the road as he tried to move to avoid the oncoming vehicle. The 2012 Chrysler 300, registered to Suzanne K. Twigg, Ridgeville, that he was driving then struck a road sign.
Damage in the 7:30 a.m. accident was estimated at $5,000 to $10,000.
