Jay County High School’s girls track team moved to 5-0 on the season Tuesday with a 101-22 victory over the visiting Heritage Patriots.
Heritage won the boys meet, 79-44.
Breea Liette, Kinsey Shannon, Sophie Fugiett and Kendra Muhlenkamp were each dual winners. Liette was first in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, while Shannon handled the 100 and 200 dash races. Fugiett beat the field in the 3,200 and 1,600 runs, while Muhlenkamp won the 400 dash and 800 run.
Kendal Garringer (high jump), Taylor Muhlenkamp (discus) and Lucy Laux (long jump) also had individual victories.
Jay County won all three relays as well.
Chad Funk (shot put) and Gavin Randall (high jump) earned individual wins for the JCHS boys. Nathanael Day, Noah Harris, Matthew Paquette and Randall teamed to win the 4x100 relay.
Tribe remains in first
ROCKFORD, Ohio — The Fort Recovery baseball team remained tied for the conference lead thanks to a 4-2 victory Tuesday over the Parkway Panthers.
The Indians, who are ranked seventh in Division III, moved to 14-4 on the season and 5-1 in Midwest Athletic Conference play. The Tribe hosts Division III No. 3 and district rival Coldwater Cavaliers (13-2, 5-1 MAC) at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Fort Recovery built its lead on four consecutive runs, as it was out front 1-0 after the second inning and 2-0 after the third before doubling the score with a pair of runs in the fourth.
Parkway broke the shutout with two runs in the fifth inning.
Joe Homan had a single and a double for the Indians, who got a pair of singles from Will Homan and Ian Homan.
Cade Wendel earned the win, allowing one hit in 4 1/3 innings while striking out eight and walking two.
Walk wins it
BERNE — Jade Baker drew a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday to give the South Adams softball team a 1-0 victory over the Heritage Patriots.
South Adams, which is ranked sixth in the most recent Class 2A coaches poll, improved to 10-0 and 2-0 in Allen County Athletic Conference play.
Anna Nussbaum started the bottom of the seventh with a single to center, and Jenna Myers got hit by a pitch. Emilie Hammell walked to load the bases before Baker watched four consecutive pitches miss the strike zone to bring in the game-winning run.
Lexi Dellinger and Nussbaum had the only two hits for South Adams. Nussbaum got the win pitching, allowing four hits over seven innings. She struck out 11 and didn’t allow a walk.
Another strong fourth
FORT WAYNE — For the second time in as many games, the South Adams baseball team recorded a five-run fourth inning and carried it into a 7-1 victory over the Heritage Patriots at Parkview Field.
Keagan Yoder got the scoring started in the fourth inning with a two-run single to left, and Grant Besser followed with an RBI double. Nic Stuber made it 5-1 with an RBI single and later scored on an error.
Mark Clary and Stuber both had two hits, as Collin Shaffer and Terry Dawn also had hits. Besser, who got the win in relief, added two walks and scored three times. He scattered three hits over 3 2/3 innings, struck out six and walked three.
Shaffer started, allowing one earned run on three hits. He fanned three and walked a pair.
Errors hurt FR
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s softball team committed five errors, resulting in a dozen unearned runs Tuesday in a 14-3 loss in five innings to the Parkway Panthers.
A six-run second inning gave Parkway a 7-0 inning heading to the second inning before Fort Recovery (7-7, 1-4 MAC) trimmed the margin to 7-2. Another six-run effort in the top of the fourth helped the Panthers put the game out of reach.
Olivia Homan led the FRHS offense with two hits and an RBI. Hannah Knapke, Macy Day and Bailee Tebbe each contributed a single.
Homan allowed 14 runs — just two earned — on 11 hits. She walked three.
Golfers win
WINCHESTER — Jay County’s middle school golf team earned its first win of the season Tuesday, edging Driver by one stroke in a five-hole match at Winchester Golf Club, 145-146
Kyle Sanders earned match medalist honors by carding a 27. Bretton Basford was second on the team with 38, Tylor Manor was third with 39 and Ryleigh Oswalt scored 41 to complete the team score.
