Jay County residents have been awarded nearly $115,000 in scholarships, The Portland Foundation announced this week.

The largest of those scholarships is the Jerry R. Pierce Memorial Scholarship, which  goes to employees and descendants of employees of W & M Manufacturing, Pier-Mac Plastics and Accelerated Curing. Receiving $3,400 each will be Christina Brown, Ashlee Brumbaugh, Aaron Foster, Kavan Knox, Brock McFarland and Taylen Reedy.

The Dr. Ara C. and Gay B. Badders Medical Scholarship provides assistance for Jay County High School graduates who are majoring in a doctoral medical program. Liza Haggenjos, Randy Fortkamp and Randa Gillespie were selected to receive $3,000 each.

Jacki Alig, Bryttani Knight, Hope Lugar, Heather Lugar, Gabbie Mann, Mallory Marshall, Lillian McClung, Lyla Muhlenkamp, Alexis Myers and Sydney Robbins were chosen as winners of the $1,400 Alwyn Carder Scholarship. It is presented to juniors or seniors in college who are majoring in architecture, history or education.

Lindsey Green and Shalee Myron were awarded $1,500 through the Orla and Ruth Tharp Education Scholarship, with Gwyneth Harris, Emily Horn, Bryttani Knight, Hope Lugar, Heather Lugar, Robert Myers, Menausha VanSkyock and Kiara Walter each receiving $1,000.

Students were also awarded the following $1,000 scholarships: Clifford and Nancy Ball — Takoa Knight, Lyla Muhlenkamp, Candace Muhlenkamp and Shelby Pryor; Marseal T. Deweerd, Edith T. Horn and Virgie M. Brady Memorial Scholarship — Emily Horn; Elizabeth Starbuck II — Jackie Alig, Hanna Fields, Gwyneth Harris, Emily Horn, Malarie Houck, Jessica Kerrigan, Bryttani Knight, Takoa Knight, Crystal Lee, Hope Lugar, Heather Lugar, Lillian McClung, Lyla Muhlenkamp, Candace Muhlenkamp, Robert Myers, Alexis Myers, Shelby Pryor, Katelyn Theurer, Menausha VanSkyock, Kiara Walter, Jennifer Walter and Kelsie Walter; and Haynes Starbuck II — Aleah Barrett, Matthew Blackford, Kyra Braun, Deanna Chenoweth, Alexander Clark, Stephanie Dirksen, Britlyn Dues, Jacob Geesaman, Alyssa Hartley, Levi Hummel, Emily Jobe, Erika Kunkler, Tyler Leonhard, Ashley Lowe, Gabrielle Mann, Mallory Marshall, Emily Muhlenkamp, Sydney Robbins, Bowen Runyon, Elizabeth Schoenlein, Kathryn Smeltzer and Jamie Valentine.

Other scholarships awarded were:

•Joyce A. Horn Scholarship for JCHS graduates who are juniors or seniors in college and are majoring in elementary education — $600 to Jackie Alig and Lyla Muhlenkamp.

•Charles & Ruth Joos — $500 to Gwyneth Harris, Emily Horn, Malarie Houck, Bryttani Knight, Takoa Knight, Hope Lugar, Heather Lugar, Lyla Muhlenkamp, Candace Muhlenkamp, Robert Myers, Shelby Pryor, Menausha VanSkyock, Kiara Walter and Kelsie Walter.

•Robert Quadrozzi Memorial for JJCL students — $450 to Candace Muhlenkamp.

•East Central Opportunities for Jay County residents enrolled at John Jay Center for Learning — $450 to Katherine Reynolds.

•Altrusa Club of Portland for a non-traditional student — $375 to Sierra Ball.

•Janet B. Arnold Memorial for JCHS graduates who are at least a junior and are majoring in elementary education — $345 to Hope Lugar and Heather Lugar.

•Ruth Whipple Badders Scholarship for a junior or senior majoring in education — $250 to Bryttani Knight.

•John Jay Center for Learning to Jay County residents pursuing a degree at John Jay Center for learning — $230 to Hanna Fields.

•Dr. Glade and Joyce McAfee Memorial to those enrolledin a doctoral program in ptometry or a certified registered nurse anesthetist program — $150 to Randy Fortkamp.
